IPL 2019 | IPL could face logistical problems due to Drought in Western and Southern India

The Indian Premier League is on the verge of another hiccup as the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are getting ready to be affected by drought. Although domestic matches have not been affected by this, it is believed that the IPL might face some backlash.
The 2019 IPL has already been under the scanner with the BCCI finding it difficult to schedule the event around the General elections and before the World Cup gets started. While the BCCI is trying to solve this problem, it appears they might have another one on their hands.
About 930 Villages in Maharashtra were declared affected due to the natural disaster and the government has already been struggling to get to grips with the current situation. The Board is considering eliminating the ‘home and away’ matches format and the present condition might force them to speed up the process.
"The idea, therefore, was to keep neutral venues in mind and host matches in areas that are not clashing with the elections. Now, it's also become imperative to understand the drought situation better", TOI reported sources saying.
Andhra Pradesh had received ₹900 crore as drought relief fund and Chennai had registered a shortfall of about 56% in rainfall this monsoon. Even though Karnataka faced such crossroads in the winter, the KSCA uses sewage treatment plans to counter the situation.
Although about 450 domestic matches for various age groups were held in Maharashtra, IPL matches are expected come under the scanner, given the reputation of the tournament.
"But seven IPL matches have more at stake on all fronts. Media, for one, likes to play up IPL and not these age-group matches. Nobody's going to be surprised if PILs get filed in the courts", TOI quoted the source saying.
