India vs England | India make three changes to the playing XI for Trent Bridge Test

India have handed Rishabh Pant Test debut cap in the third Test in Nottingham as the Delhi wicket-keeper replaced Dinesh Karthik in the team. On the other hand, fit-again Jasprit Bumrah has replaced Kuldeep Yadav while opener Murali Vijay has made way for Shikhar Dhawan in the opening slot.

After losing the first two matches, India had no option than to make another host of changes ahead of the potential series decider and the first to benefit from the debacle is Rishabh Pant. The Delhi Daredevils player was in good form in India A's tour to England, where he managed to score a total of 189 runs in the two first-class matches, at an average of 63 including three half-centuries.

His selection, however, hasn’t come as a huge surprise after Karthik’s disastrous performance with the bat in two consecutive Tests. The Tamil Nadu keeper scored two ducks and 20 of his 21 runs came in the second innings at Edgbaston.

On the other hand, India will be ecstatic to have Bumrah back in the team again as the Gujarat pacer replaced Kuldeep Yadav, who had a tough time on the field at Lord’s. Bumrah’s pace and the ability to move the ball away from the right-handers with ease can be helpful for India as the track at Trent Bridge is supposed to give assistance to pacers.

Kuldeep and Karthik are, however, not the only ones to get the axe as Murali Vijay, who looked like a shadow of his 2014 self, made way for Dhawan in the team. The Delhi opener will partner KL Rahul, who himself will try to score some substantial runs to prolong his career.

India (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah
